Ten Early Signs of Alzheimer's Disease

My First Year of residency Here at THD has taught me that a few of the residents here are experiencing early Alzheimer's symptoms. A few residents are forgetful and others repeat their questions after 2-3 minutes. I was curious so I did some search. Here are the 10 early signs of AZ.

1. Memory Loss that Disrupts Daily Life

2. Difficulty completing familiar task

3. New Problems with speaking and writing

4. Disorientation with Time or Place

5. Poor or Decreased Judgement

6. Challenges in Problem Solving

7. Misplacing Things or Losing Ability to retrace Steps

8. Changes in Mood and Personality

9. Withdrawal from Social Activities

10. Loss of Initiative and Vision Changes

If you are experiencing any one of the above. Please consult your Physician. There are now an Approved FDA💚 drugs that remove plaque from the brain, which could delay progress of AZ to more serious stages.

For details about the 10 early signs in the list above read the following site:

💚Lecanemab is an FDA-approved immunotherapy to treat early Alzheimer's. It targets the protein beta-amyloid to help reduce amyloid plaques, one of the hallmark brain changes in Alzheimer's.

Three cholinesterase inhibitors are commonly prescribed:
  • Donepezil (Aricept) is approved to treat all stages of the disease. It's taken once a day as a pill.
  • Galantamine is approved to treat mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. ...
  • Rivastigmine is approved for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.

David - Many thanks for your helpful words on early dementia which does affect some of our Heritage residents - and will certainly be affecting more as the years pass. You are especially right in noting the memory loss of dementia is memory loss that disrupts daily life. Many, I guess most of us, have some memory loss which has nothing to do with Alzheimer's disease, but is a normal part of aging. I would only critique your suggestion that current medical treatment has much to offer in the way of medication. None of the current medications offer a great deal of change in memory, and they have significant side effects and often cost outrageous amounts of money. Phil Paris

I could agree that the current medications may have more risks ( swelling of the brain etc...), than benefits. But to some, it may help retard the progression of AZ. Appreciate your comments!

Hello David,

I appreciated your post on Early signs of Alzheimer's Disease. A number of years ago when my mother, who is now deceased, began experiencing memory and cognitive issues, I did quite a bit of research on dementia in general and Alzheimer's Disease in particular. This helped Carol and me understand what was happening to my mom and why, as the disease progressed. I too have been aware that some of our residents appear to have memory issues, and indeed, one resident has openly acknowledged to Carol and me that he has dementia.

Carol and I have been praying for truly effective treatments for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. In addition, we make regular monetary contributions to an organization called Alzheimer's Disease Research, an organization that provides grants for scientists engaged in efforts to find the cause or causes of dementia, to develop treatments, and top find a cure.

Kudos to you!
