Meanwhile, we have a New Pope: Habemus Papam
POPE LEO XIV: FIRST AMERICAN, AUGUSTINIAN POPE
BREAKING: Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, 69, prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, has been elected the 267th pope, making history as the first pontiff from the United States and the Order of St. Augustine.
Born on Sept. 14, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, Prevost served as bishop of Chiclayo, Peru from 2015 to 2023. He was elevated to the cardinalate by his predecessor, Pope Francis, in 2023.
As prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, he oversaw the establishment of particular Churches and the appointment of bishops worldwide.
Prevost led the Augustinian religious order from 2001 to 2013 and holds a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
His election as the 267th supreme pontiff ends a weeks-long sede vacante following the death of Pope Francis on April 21.
Lastly, Trump Reaction to Pope Leo XIV:
MAGA world melts down as the Catholic Church elects American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost to become Pope Leo XIV — a man who has slammed Donald Trump and J.D. Vance in the past.
Republicans wanted a far-right pope and instead they got a continuation of Pope Francis' legacy...
In February, then-Cardinal Prevost shared a piece on X entitled "JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn't ask us to rank our love for others" in which the author pushed back on Vance's claim that Christians should love their family first, then their neighbor, then their community, then their fellow citizens, then the rest of the world.
