Dungeness Crabs Season- THD Management Actions

Photo from the Walnut Creek Yacht Club Seafood Restaurant - 2 blocks from THD

In the News: "The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will open the commercial Dungeness crab fishery from the Sonoma/Mendocino county line to the U.S./Mexico border beginning Jan. 5, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. with pre-soak to begin on January 1".

I also found the following article in My FaceBook page the other day. It is perfect timing for my Cravings for Dungeness crabs.  Dungeness crabs is one of my favorite seafood dish, second only to lobster. https://myfavoritepinoydishes.blogspot.com/2021/12/dungeness-crabs-for-our-new-year-feast.html

Another recipe I enjoyed is Dungeness crab Fried Rice offered by a nearby Thai restaurant during the season.

Crab Fried Rice is a classic and much beloved Thai dish, characterized by its delicate flavors. The crab is really the star of the show here, so a light touch is used when it comes to soy sauce, fish sauce, and the shaoxing wine. The cilantro, scallion, and lime combo adds the perfect fresh flavor. https://thewoksoflife.com/crab-fried-rice/

Commercial crabbing season in California opened this past weekend after a couple months delay. The season is supposed to start in November as the big demand locally is usually for crab during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

Diehard crab connoisseurs got their pick of the first catch on Sunday, right off of crabbing boats. But restaurants across San Francisco got their first shipments of local crab on Sunday night.

At Alioto Lazio Fish Company, there were two tanks full of crab fresh from the California coast. A catch from an afternoon crab boat will fill a couple more tanks and they'll head out to customers.

"Restaurants, wholesale markets, golf clubs, you name it, it's going,” said Angel Cincotta with the Aliotto Lazio Fish Company.

Subject to availability a pound of Dungeness crab will cost from $9.99 to $14.99 per lb. Today, I found a limited supply  is Available in your local Safeway store, but not in Costco.

Our THF Annual Lobster Lunch ($35) is scheduled for Jan 25 at 11:00AM at the WC Yacht Club Sea Food Restaurant. Looking forward for this excursion!

Meanwhile, Did you Know that from 1898 to 1946, Filipinos held a unique status as U.S. nationals but not citizens. This meant they could freely migrate to the U.S., but they didn't have the same rights as American citizens. 🌍🛤️
Filipinos found themselves in a complex situation, living and working in the U.S. without the full protections and privileges of citizenship. This status affected numerous aspects of their lives, from legal rights to social standing. Nonetheless, many Filipinos made significant contributions to American society during this period, despite the limitations they faced.

Lastly, the news of the latest management actions and improvements is indeed very much welcome. Better communications between THD management and its residents enhanced our sense of community belonging. Looking forward for the new Sous Chief for more innovative recipes and variety in our Newton's Meals. The plan to hire another dining-server and a Driver to replace Nancy is indeed good news.

I am still waiting on what THD will do to reduce the noise level in Newton's.
